Denis Villeneuve Explains DUNE’s Gloriously Detailed Gom Jabbar Scene

Last Saturday, we saw DUNE, and it was everything we were hoping for for this modern retelling of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece. The beautiful complexity of the story. The visuals that are unlike anything you’ve ever seen on the big screen. The deep, almost religious reverence that impregnates every aspect of Denis Villeneuve’s vision. You just have to see DUNE to understand.

In the following video from Vanity Fair, director Denis Villeneuve breaks down the movie’s deliciously detailed and highly complex Gom Jabbar scece, the scene where Paul Atreides has to put his hand into a mysterious box to see if his animal impulses will take over his humanity. To force him to comply, a poisoned needle is held against his neck, thretening to kill him if he ever pulls his hand out. Watch below:
