Toilet PC Makes A Splash

A man has turned his toilet into a gaming PC as a bizarre but effective publicity stunt for a computer parts retailer.

The fully-working PC is built into the cistern, with a “water wall” keeping the motherboard tray completely isolated from the plumbing, which still operates. There’s also a display window that rather bizarrely reveals both the PC components and the flush mechanism.

The main challenges in the build were keeping the cistern safely divided and fitting the PC components safely in the small space. The former involved extensive use of Flex-Seal on a custom three-section wall as the arrangement on electronic and plumbing parts didn’t allow for a single straight-line division.

The latter involved a Mini-ITX Motherboard, a single fan and a very carefully worked-out schedule to fit all the parts, inherently reducing ease-of-access with each addition.

The YouTuber, who goes by the name Nicholas Z or “Basically Homeless”, did the project on behalf of MicroCenter. While that’s a shameless publicity stunt, you kind of have to respect them for listing the project on their site complete with a pre-filled basket of the parts used in the build, and a “Favorite Feature” section in the description that simply reads “it flushes poop”.

Sony Axes Accolades On PS5

Sony is to ditch the Accolades feature in PS5 online gaming. It wasn’t widely used, though it’s not clear how many people even knew it existed.

The feature let online gamers award badges to other players, whether teammate or opponent. The accolades acknowledged positive gaming traits such as being “Helpful”, “Welcoming” or a “Good sport.”

While it might seem trivial, Sony had put a bit of work into making sure it operated as intended without people gaming the system. Players could only give the badges anonymously, couldn’t give them to existing online friends, and couldn’t give more than one badge to the same player in a 12-hour period.

Sony says it will drop the feature in the fall because it “hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts.” It added, perhaps optimistically, “We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another. “

Feedback has been mixed, with many players noting they’d never heard of the feature, one admitting they awarded them sarcastically, and another suggesting Sony could have promoted the concept by having game trophies for handing out a certain number of Accolades.

Another suggestion was that the Accolades a player had received could be taken into account for automated matchmaking.
