@BrentSpiner: Embiggening YouTube’s Awesomeness

Brent Spiner, portrayer of Star Trek TNG’s Commander Data and that one long-haired scientist from “Independence Day,” has been hanging around on Twitter for quite some time. Increasing his real estate on teh interntz, he just launched a web series over on YouTube called “Fresh Hell.”

The first episode, clocking in at just over three minutes, sets the stage for what looks like a pretty funny show. Playing himself, Spiner is involved “in an incident” that “shocks America,” and consequently falls from public grace. The actor’s tongue-in-cheek portrayal of himself as unemployed, down-and-out, and universally reviled ย is worth a few million views. And the next-door neighbor is pretty funny, too.

Be sure to check out Fresh Hell on YouTube for future episodes and let us know what you think!

Breathtaking Time-Lapse Video: The Mountain [Video]

Check out this amazingly beautiful time-lapse video made out the the pictures Norwegian photograph Terje Sorgjerd took while he was on top of of mount Teide in Spain. If you’re about to go to bed, be sure to close all the lights, put the video in full screen mode, and then sit back to enjoy the show.

This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide.
Spainยดs highest mountain @(3715m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the worldยดs best observatories.

The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.

REMINDER: Geeky Banana Sculptures + Fruit / Vegetable Sculpting Contest [Pics]

EDIT: We Only received 2 entries so far for the contest (see below)! Come on geeks, we need more!

Hey ladies and gentlegeeks! After seeing these geektastic banana sculptures on Obvious Winner, a brilliant idea came to me: why not ask you guys to sculpt something geeky on a fruit or vegetable of your choice? I’m not going to ask you to do this for nothing, of course, so I’ll be giving away a $20 prize (via paypal only!) to three random [GAS] readers who can send me any geeky-themed fruit / vegetable sculpture before the end of the week (April 24th, 2011). After being done with your chef d’oeuvre, snap a picture of it and then send it to us via the email address located in the contact section of the blog.

Oh, and please note that sculptures made on pumpkins will NOT be accepted! :)

And if you’re worried that you’ll be doing all this for nothing, why not see this as an opportunity to bring out the artist in you? You can use as many fruits as you want to express your vision, so be creative!

Good luck to everyone!
