From New Line Cinema comes the explosive new cinematic adventure โMortal Kombat,โ inspired by the blockbuster video game franchise, which most recently enjoyed the most successful video game launch in its history, Mortal Kombat 11. The film is helmed by award-winning Australian commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid, marking his feature directorial debut, and produced by James Wan (โThe Conjuringโ universe films, โAquaman,โ), Todd Garner (โInto the Storm,โ โTagโ), McQuoid and E. Bennett Walsh (โMen in Black: International,โ โThe Amazing Spider-Man 2โ).
In โMortal Kombat,โ MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritageโor why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earthโs greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcanaโthe immense power from within his soulโin time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

Nothing beats Star Wars when you need to explain something totally unrelated to a geek. Case in point, This XKCD comic by Randall Munroe showing how the new Covid-19 mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) work. Behold:
Seriously geeks, this might be the best explanation of how mRNA Vaccines work I have ever seen. Not only is it hilarious, it also does its job in a beautifully simple way! Send it to your favorite Star Wars nerd!

What can we learn by examining only the first and final shot of a film? This video plays the opening and closing shots of 55 films side-by-side. Some of the opening shots are strikingly similar to the final shots, while others are vastly different–both serving a purpose in communicating various themes. Some show progress, some show decline, and some are simply impactful images used to begin and end a film.
