It’s been 20 years since Robot Chicken first crash-landed on Adult Swim, forever ruining childhood icons in the best way possible. Now, the Emmy-winning stop-motion fever dream is coming back next summer with a 20th anniversary special, because apparently (and fortunately), 11 seasons of plastic carnage just wasn’t enough!
“Robot Chicken has been pushing the boundaries of comedy and animation for 20 years, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this milestone with our incredible fans,” said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen about the new 20th anniversary special. “From the very first stop-motion sketch to the upcoming special, the show’s relentless creativity and sharp satire continue to set it apart. This new special is packed with the kind of wild, irreverent fun that only Robot Chicken can deliver.”
Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s masterpiece of chaos first debuted on February 20, 2005, and over the years, it’s given us way too many unforgettable sketches—Palpatine greeting Stormtroopers while going up an escalator, the Nerd suffering endlessly, and pop culture icons doing things they’d rather forget. The show wrapped in 2022, but much like an action figure missing a limb, it refuses to die.
Details on the new special are scarce, but one thing’s for sure: no beloved character is safe. Stay tuned for more madness dropping this summer!
