When Space Comes Knocking: Meteorite Crash Caught on Camera For the First Time

Imagine stepping outside your front door, only to have a meteorite crash where you just stood moments later. That’s exactly what happened to Joe Velaidum of Marshfield, Prince Edward Island, last July. Talk about a close encounter of the extraterrestrial kind!

As CBC News reports, Joe’s doorbell camera captured the incredible event—the first-ever recording of a meteorite strike with both video and audio. The footage shows the space rock slamming into the front walkway of his home with an otherworldly smack, leaving behind 95 grams (3.3 ounces) of extraterrestrial material now being studied by scientists.
