Am I wondering if I’m the asshole in this situation? I have this student that I find incredibly annoying, even though I taught him everything and treated him like my younger brother. He constantly does whatever he wants, challenges my every word, and then whines about not getting the degree he’s been aiming for his whole life.

The other day, we had this field trip near an active volcano and we got into a big argument. He was once again opposing all my decisions, being ungrateful for all the opportunities he was given since he was a kid and being a spoiled brat. There was a kerfuffle where he inadvertently slipped in fell in lava while still cursing me out.

Am I the asshole for watching him burn and leaving?
