Hold on to your Schwartz, Spaceballs fans! Josh Gad just dropped a bombshell on Instagram, teasing what looks like the holy grail of comedy sequels. The actor posted a sneak peek of a script cover, calling it “the funniest and best thing [he’s] ever worked on.” And here’s the kicker: the cover mentions “characters created by Mel Brooks” and starts with an “exterior shot of a star field.”
Could this be it? Could we finally be getting the Spaceballs sequel we’ve all been longing for since 1987? Is Yogurt coming back with more merchandising? Will Dark Helmet get his oversized head stuck in new, hilarious predicaments? Will Lone Starr’s hair still be impeccably styled in zero gravity?
Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited. Working with my boys @cubanmissiledh and @benjisamit has been heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!
If the project ever sees the light of day, I hope they call it “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money,” or “Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II.”
In the meantime, be sure to keep your hyperactive imaginations running – because the Schwartz might just be with us again soon!
