Stranger Things Characters Come (Unofficially) To D&D

In a true meta-expansion, D&D players can now play as Stranger Things characters. An unofficial but well-researched codex has pre-rolled sheets for four characters (in both the game and show sense.)

It’s the work of freelance game designed Anthony Joyce-Rivera, who has issued it as a free PDF. He’s a consultant for D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast.

The sheet covers Steve “The Hair” Harrington, Eddie Munson, Dustin Henderson and Argyle and is compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5E. As well as stats, the characters have a range of actions and reactions rooted in the Netflix show, including Eddie playing Master of Puppets to inflict psychic damage, Steve attacking with a Farrah Fawcett Spray and Argyle summoning surfer boys.

Most of the reactions from the many crossover fans have been positive, though some complained Dustin’s base intelligence score of 14 was too low. Joyce-Rivera conceded that was a fair argument and suggests adding a thinking cap item which, if worn by Dustin, increases his intelligence to 18.

While making no promises, Joyce-Rivera has hinted that he’ll issue similar sheets for more characters.

Editor’s note: A few years ago, Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast released an official Stranger Things D&D Starter Set, which was very well received by fans of both franchises. For those interested, the set is still available for purchase on Amazon right here.
