Atari games Missile Command and Adventure are getting an unlikely re-release. The “new” editions cartridges will be collectible items but will also work on original Atari 2600 consoles.
The two games are the latest in the “Atari XP” collectible line and are being released now to mark the company’s 50th anniversary. Previous releases included Aquaventure, Saboteur and Yars’ Return. A further eight games are scheduled for similar re-releases this year, though the titles haven’t been confirmed.
Both the new releases cost $99.99 and include the playable cartridge (with new custom artwork), a custom stand, and a collectible pin and patch.
Atari is also marking the anniversary by adding a series of “Recharged” versions 2600-era games to the Google Stadia platform including Asteroids, Breakout, Black Widow and Centipede. Unlike with the XP cartridges, this line includes major gameplay tweaks such as power-ups, co-op and new soundtracks.
