If Video Game Characters Were Under Quarantine [Video]

We catch up with some of our favorite video game characters like Sonic, Doom Guy, Mario and Luigi, and more to see how they’re coping with quarantine life, the current stay at home orders, and social distancing. Most are struggling in different ways, but some are thriving!

From The Warp Zone:

Our comedy team has been producing sketches together for over 10 years, and our videos have been predominantly live-action. When the social distancing mandates came in, we felt very limited with how we could collaborate with each other. We missed the filmmaking process of creating a video together in the moment and feeding off of each other’s energy.

That’s when our love of everything VR led us to the idea of making a video about video game characters captured entirely in VR.

Through VR Chat we were able to physically shoot together again, but from our own rooms. Actors acted the scenes out in real time, the camera had to be physically held and placed in virtual sets, and it was an incredibly collaborative experience that was pretty reminiscent of the live-action shooting process. We think this experience touches on the immense potential for filmmaking with VR, even though it was just for a 4-minute silly sketch in an indie chat game. We’re grateful to have technology like this to still be able to connect with each other and create during these uncertain times.
