The Joker Gets an Eight-Minute Standing Ovation at its World Premiere

Most people I know who enjoy superhero films were a little worried that the new Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix would be a disappointment. Well, worry not anymore, dear geeks, as the movie got an eight-minute standing ovation at its world premiere last Saturday at the Venice Film Festival.

When asked about his performance as the iconic villain, Phoenix said:

“I didn’t refer to any past iteration of the character. It just felt like something that was our creation in some ways.

“What was so attractive about this character for me is he’s so hard to define. You don’t really want to define him. Every day felt like we were discovering new aspects of his character… up until the very last day.”

According to Alberto Barbera, Venice film fest artistic director, the movie is headed “straight to the Oscars.”

Joker will hit the big screen on October 4. Will you be there on opening day? I know I will.
