The forthcoming Star Citizen game will include a DLC pack that costs a mere $27,000. As you’d hope, it includes virtually every available item in the game.
The game itself has been crowdfunded through Kickstarter and is turning into quite the development saga, having been in the works since 2011. To date the project has raised more than $175 million, raising eyebrows about the ongoing delay in an official release.
Eventually it will include a single player version named Squadron 542, with a cast including Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill and Gary Oldman, and a ‘persistent universe’ multiplayer version. As with most such games, there’ll be an option to buy individual items such as ships.
The new “Legatus Pack” is only available to people who’ve already put more than $1,000 into the project. It includes 117 different spaceships and a further 163 items including skins, in-game money and land in the virtual universe.
While it seems hard to believe many individuals would have the spare cash and desire to put that much money into a game like this, one theory is that the developers hope to appeal to large syndicates of players who want to band together to effectively operate their own fleet of craft within the game.
