Netflix is raising its US monthly prices by up to two dollars. Unlike previous hikes, there won’t be any grandfathering.
In the US, the basic plan, which covers one simultaneous stream only and no HD, remains at $7.99. The standard plan, covering two screens and HD, is going from $9.99 to $10.99. The premium plan, covering four screens and adding in ultra HD support, will go from $11.99 to $13.99.
The increased prices have already taken effect for anyone wanting to sign up as a new customer. Existing customers will get 30 days’ notice, with the new prices then taking effect for the following billing cycle.
There’ll also be price rises in some other countries including the UK, Germany and France. However, it doesn’t appear it will be applied in those countries such as Canada where prices have already risen this year.
The company told Mashable: “From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster.”
