NFL Coach: I’m Done With Tablets

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says he’s done using tablets at pitchside. He’ll be returning to using paper to plan plays, saying the tech is too unreliable

Speaking on a conference call, Belichick discussed the use of technology in the game. This includes Microsoft Surface tablets that are provided to all teams as part of an NFL sponsorship deal.

Belichick doesn’t seem a particular fan of technology, noting that the communication systems for passing on play calls to players on the pitch has too many parts and connections to be completely reliable.

He saved his main criticism for the tablets, saying “As you probably noticed, I’m done with the tablets, I’ve given them as much time as I can give them. They’re just too undependable for me… I’ll use the paper pictures from here on because I’ve given it my best shot. I’ve tried to work through the process but it just doesn’t work for me and that’s because there’s no consistency to it.”

Belichick was previously filmed smashing a tablet on the side of an equipment case, though it’s not clear if that particular frustration was with the technology or the Patriots’ performance.
