The Geektastic Pop Art of Béatrix [Gallery + Opening Exhibition]

My wife and I love paintings, and thanks to a longtime friend of mine, we recently met a talented young artist named Béatrix who will do her first vernissage (opening exhibition) next Saturday, April 23, 2016, in Montreal.

Béatrix has never liked being ‘name-tagged’ as an artist and the clichés that come with the name, but she does art, so she decided to accept the fact that she is an artist after all. She graduated in arts from college in 2012 and has been painting ever since.

About my work: I always loved depicting humans; bodies, faces, hands. I also enjoy pop art, so, during a sleepless night, I decided to paint Al Pacino in black and white pop art portrait style. And there it was, the very beginning of a series of pop portraits.

After finishing several pieces, I realized I had only painted men. Don’t ask why, I don’t know, it’s just like that. And I decided to keep going in that same direction for a while. My inspiration comes from who the subject is (what they do, who they are and what they’ve accomplished) and what kind of vibe and feel the subject is communicating on the picture I’ve selected.

For those who live in the Montreal, Quebec area, Béatrix will feature her paintings at her very first art exhibition next Saturday at 19:30 at the Galerie Espace Scuderi (1359 Ste-Catherine East, Montreal.) The entrance fee will be $15 and all proceeds will be donated to the foundation for emerging artists. Wine and bites will be served during the evening and live musicians will be on site to entertain guests. For those who cannot attend on that day, the paintings will be on display at the same location from April 24 to April 30.
