5 Awesome Nerd Shows More People Need to Watch on Netflix

netflix

Netflix is becoming like a perfect nerd robot that sits around the house all day waiting to entertain us, and then does whatever we ask it. In this case, we come home and want to watch some geek TV, but have no idea where to start, because there are so many options. What makes a show good geek TV? How did I pick those out of Netflix from all the bad geek TV on there? Well, luckily, I am a writer and I have no life so I can watch every show on Netflix and will now tell you about five that I think all geeks would love and should give a shot.

Here, in no particular order are 5 awesome nerd shows more people need to watch. Some of these you may have loved before, some you may have never heard of, but they all have one thing in common. Us geeks tend to love them.

Animaniacs

I know all the states because of THIS show.

I know, I know. Most of you have seen this show (if you are awesome and a true geek) but hear me out for a second. Animaniacs just added their ENTIRE run to Netflix. Yes, you read that correctly. So trust me, plan on killing a few days with the crazy animated trio and remembering exactly why they are in one of the greatest cartoons ever made.

Plus, you get Pinky and the Brain and the Birdfeathers (Goodfella’s satire with birds for the win). It doesn’t get much better than that.

Freaks and Geeks

Aw, look how young he was before he was in How I Met Your Mother?

Yes, Judd Apatow did a show with some of our favorite current actors (Seth Rogen, James Franco) and it has the same absurd, burn out style his movies do (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up), but this takes place in High School and has at least ONE character every geek on earth can relate to.

If you have not seen this show, pop over and watch it now. You WILL thank me later.

Futurama

Bender for life. Without a doubt, one of the greatest animated characters of ALL time!

No, not all the shows on this list will be animated, but don’t even try to pretend that Futurama is not one of the greatest sci-fi and nerd shows of all time, because the best of us know it is. And to have this stellar show sitting in our computers, at our fingertips, waiting for us to watch at anytime is too alluring too ignore.

Plus, you can skip the Jurassic Bark episode so you don’t cry for three days straight like I did when I watched it. Right in the Feels. Still hurts.

Firefly

The best show to ever get prematurely canceled, right there, straight up.

Why, oh why Lord was this show cancelled before its time? Why, when the world FINALLY got a series that was akin to Star Wars, was it pulled so quickly? What kind of evil forces were at work? Regardless. Firefly (most know from its Serenity movie spin off) is an amazing story that melds old westerns with some ultra science fiction and the end result was one of the best geek shows of all time that just died too damn early.

Is it wrong of me hoping Netflix will eventually bring it back for one, TRUE final season? Well, wrong or not, I am holding on to that belief.

Black Mirror

This show will make your brain grow ten sizes. It is TV for the sick, twisted tech genius.

Black Mirror is the greatest science fiction TV show of all time. Yes, I just said that. Watch the bundle of episodes on Netflix and try to tell me differently.

Didn’t think so.

Black Mirror is a British television anthology series created by Charlie Brooker that features speculative fiction with dark and sometimes satirical themes which examine modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. [Wikipedia]

Editor’s note: Star Trek: TNG, obviously! The show is still available on Netflix in the U.S., but was recently pulled from the available library for Canadian viewers.
