Nerdist to Open Own Comedy School with 12-Hour Improv Marathon

The Groundlings and the Upright Citizens Brigade are Los Angeles institutions, especially for aspiring comics.

Now, Nerdist Industries is throwing its hat into the ring.

In an exclusive with The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Hardwick said that The Nerdist School will host a 12-hour improv marathon to kick of the opening on Saturday, March 28.

“The Nerdist Showroom has spent the last several years cultivating a wonderful community of performers and comedy fans to become one of the top venues in Los Angeles. The goal of the school will be to broaden that community to give young comedy minds the tools they need to leap from audience to stage!”

Dubbed the “1st Annual School Assembly,” the FREE improv event runs from noon till midnight and will feature both professional comedians and up-and-comers. The day will culminate in a DJ dance party for both attendees and performers.

The school will instruct students in the arts of improv, sketch writing, and storytelling with “various actors, writers, and directors, such as Derek Miller (Scrubs, Drunk History), Rebekka Johnson (director of Paul F. Tompkins’ Speakeasy web series), and Monika Smith (Comedy Bang! Bang!, Starz’s Blunt Talks),” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
