Rides featuring Doctor Who, Sherlock and other BBC shows could be coming to a British theme park. It may also feature movies including Star Trek.
The theme park is due to open in Kent in 2020. Operators London Resort Company Holdings have already done a licensing deal with Paramount Pictures, with the park to be named the London Paramount Entertainment Resort. They say it will “combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture.”
This week the company announced a deal with BBC Worldwide, the organization responsible for marketing the intellectual property for the broadcaster’s shows.
Exactly which shows will feature in rides at the new park has yet to be revealed, though most analysts believe Doctor Who and motoring show Top Gear are locks.
The Guardian has some intriguing reader suggestions including a thrill-packed “runaway Tardis” experience and a less-exciting quarry tour to remember the period when Doctor Who budgets were particularly constrained. Perhaps predictably several respondents asked to suggest an exciting ride said nothing more than “Benedict Cumberbatch.”
Meanwhile The Godfather and The Italian Job are among the possible rides coming out of the Paramount licensing.
