Neil Patrick Harris — who played Doogie Howser MD — has chosen an unusual format for his autobiography. It will be in the style of a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

For those unlucky enough not to remember, the series of books allowed children to read the story over and over again thanks to branching storylines where the reader made regular decisions that affected the plot.

Clearly a fan, Harris has adopted the format (and cover design) of the book to produce what he calls ” an exciting, interactive read that puts the ‘u’ back in ‘aUtobiography’.”

Not only does it appear the book is written in the second person, which is certainly unorthodox for an autobiography to say the least, but there’ll be regular decisions on the part of the reader:

You will decide whether to try out for Doogie Howser, M.D. You will decide whether to spend years struggling with your sexuality. You will decide what kind of caviar you want to eat on board of Elton John’s yacht.

The book promises that your decisions can decide whether you (as Harris) wind up with fame and fortune or an appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew.
