You guys, can you believe The Giver by Lois Lowry is over 20 years old this year??
The book came out in 1993 and it was my favorite for a long time — alongside Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet. (Speaking of which…where is THAT movie?!)
Entertainment Weekly has released the first still of the movie and it shows an almost-unrecognizable Jeff Bridges in the title role and 24-year-old Australian actor Brenton Thwaites in the lead role of Jonas, the “Receiver of Memory.”
I have high hopes for this film, despite the fact that Thwaities is literally twice the age Jones is in the book (what, Asa Butterfield was busy?). Bridges is a producer on the film after trying to get a film adaptation off the ground for nearly as long as the book has been in print.
