Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog to Air on TV

I have been a Joss Whedon fan since Buffy, and he continues to prove himself a god amongst men. Most recently The Avengers earned him high accolades; but today I want to talk about a little project he did called Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.

I am certain any reader of this site is intimately aware of this stand alone Whedon web project that was birthed from his quiet rebellion during the Writer’s Strike.

Now internet legend, and distributed on numerous content providers like Hulu and Netflix, Dr. Horrible will finally get the recognition it deserves. Television network CW will air the web series on October 9th, 2012.

Speculation online is all abuzz that CW is testing the waters for a potential Dr Horrible TV series, however I don’t think this is true or even possible. Whedon is still a little gun-shy about TV.

The elements that made the show an incredible success were the genuine charm of the main trio of characters. Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day are all very busy with their own projects, and while NPH might be the only real requirement to continue the story, I just don’t see it happening.

However on the other hand, musical shows are cropping up hoping to capture some of that Glee market. A continuing and expanding franchise in the world of Dr. Horrible could be fun.

The TV Premier may introduce more people to Dr. Horrible, which I think it deserves. But will most of the viewership be existing fans, or will fans of Fillion and NPH tune in to see this gem they didn’t know about?
