PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale: Fat Princess Goes into Battle

If you’ve always wanted to see Fat Princess beat the holy hell out of Parappa the Rapper, you are a sick individual. And you are in luck.

Sony has decided to create a new game that takes the classic fiction theme of bringing together characters from different titles. However, they won’t be forming a dream team, but rather fighting in what looks to be an old-school beat-em-up.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will have a roster of characters from past PlayStation releases. Already announced are Colonel Radec from Killzone, Fat Princess, Kratos from God of War, Parappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper, and Sweet Tooth for Twisted Metal.

More characters will be announced later, though it’s almost certain they’ll be restricted to those from PlayStation exclusive titles. While these seem unlikely options, I’d love the opportunity to beat up Sackboy, the host from Buzz!, and the elusive and uncontrollable EyePet.

The game’s production team will be led by Omar Kendall, who worked on the UFC Undisputed game, with the combat design headed by Paul Edwards who worked on both Mortal Kombat and WWE titles.

There’ll be all the usual beat-em-up modes you’d expect, with support for up to four players working as individuals or teams. It looks to be very much a casual game rather than particularly complex with just three basic attack buttons.

The idea was to take the existing characters and marry them up with appropriate special attacks more familiar from this genre of game. For example Fat Princess, who has no previous combat experience, simply calls on help from her villagers.

To add to the concept, battles will take place in a variety of settings from previous PlayStation games as diverse as Ratchet & Clank and God of War.
