Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess) is a hilarious geek who has written a book called “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir“. That title alone appeals to me, but the kind of poverty-stricken upbringing this girl faced falls into that category of “you can’t make this stuff up” with a taxidermist father who used to make hand puppets out of dead animals. While heartbreakingly tragic, Lawson still manages to find amusement in the absurdity that was her childhood and credits much of it for the person she is today.
So she wrote a book.
I find myself strangely intrigued by this author and her particular tactic to appeal to geekdom with some clever circular logic to promote her book. This is what she has to say about it on her website
You should probably go buy it right now, because it’s filled with awesomeness. And cocaine. But only if you hollow it out and fill it with your own cocaine. I’m not buying you cocaine.
Because I love you.
And that’s why you should buy my book. Because I’m saving you from yourself.
And from cocaine.
YOU’RE WELCOME.
And check out the trailer she put together with a number of geeky personalities pretending to be Jenny Lawson:
In case you missed it, those paying tribute to the author in the video are Wil Wheaton, Amanda Palmer, Jeri Ryan, Felicia Day, Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster!!), Bigfoot and Mary Lynn Rajskub!
The book will be out on April 17th and will be available through most major online chains and outlets.
