My Inspiration as a Professional Blogger

Back when I started blogging in 2005, little did I know that Geeks are Sexy would become this big. In the first four year of its existence, the blog went from about 50 visitors per day to a little more than half a million last year. However, things have really exploded this year, and we’re now getting around 1.3 to 1.5 million unique visitors every month (thank you guys, we love you all!). There are a few people who helped me along the path, most notably Darren Rowse of Problogger.net and the guy who likes to call himself the root of all evil, John Chow of Johnchow.com. If you’re a blogger yourself, I’m sure you’ve heard of these guys, and if not, I strongly encourage you to check them out.

The reason I’m writing this is that John recently posted the audio of a presentation he did for the 2010 Society of American Travel Writers convention in Germany a few weeks ago. John’s story is a fascinating one, and even though he once was a nobody, his blog now generates over half a million dollars every year, and this, with only about 2 hours of work per day. I’ve embedded the sound clip below along with the slides John used during the presentation. Unfortunately, you’ll have to advance them yourself since they’re not keyed to the audio. Enjoy!
