OK Go makes some pretty inventive music videos that are far more entertaining than their music. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are a great band with some really catchy stuff. That being said, that makes my previous statement that much more impacting.
Their latest music video was teased at in a Superbowl commercial for the Chevy Sonic, as Chevrolet did help them by donating the car to be retrofitted with a multitude of microphones, arms, and cameras for their incredible video for Needing/Getting.
The new music video from OK Go, made in partnership with Chevrolet. OK Go set up over 1000 instruments over two miles of desert outside Los Angeles. A Chevy Sonic was outfitted with retractable pneumatic arms designed to play the instruments, and the band recorded this version of Needing/Getting, singing as they played the instrument array with the car. The video took 4 months of preparation and 4 days of shooting and recording.
Just amazing stuff right there. Damian (lead singer) took stunt driving lessons so that the band could actually do this without external help during filming. It just boggles my mind to think they set this up and he had to drive at an exact speed with precision to pull it off. What I liked most is that you still hear the flaws in the song as it is “performed” by a car racing down this absurd obstacle course!
